How we met

Our first date was at the Wende Museum in Culver City, an institution dedicated to exploring Cold War-era Soviet art and society. It was an offbeat choice that thankfully we both appreciated. We saw each other every weekend after that, exploring neighborhoods, visiting botanical gardens, making homemade pasta, and reliving childhood thrills at Knott’s Berry Farm. Three years and many meals later, we got engaged on Valentine’s weekend over slices of blood orange upside-down cake, the very same dessert that Miles made for our first Valentine’s dinner.

About Us

Miles

Miles grew up in and around Long Beach. After graduating from college, he spent 10 years in journalism, writing about restaurants and food for the LA Times and others before (mostly) leaving writing behind to work for his family’s business. He loves historical minutia, goes out of his way to admire architecture, wants always to be in or near nature, and finds surprising, meditative inspiration in running.

Yurika Cherise

Yurika Cherise grew up in Boyle Heights and was obsessed with (and naturally gifted at) drawing. Finding a way to channel her artistic talent, she studied fashion design in college and became a menswear designer, eventually moving to Italy for two years to work for Armani. Outside of her work-related creative endeavors, she challenges herself to develop her skills in kendo, enjoys reading existential detective novels, loves to search for inspiration at museums, and endures a protracted battle to tame her cats.
